For some time now we have grown used to the presence of low cost airlines. However, they are not equally distributed throughout Europe. The price comparison site Gopili has carried out a study on the low cost routes on the continent, showing the enormous differences that exist. While the United Kingdom (935) and Spain (837) have the highest number of low cost routes to and from their airports, countries like the Netherlands, Belgium or Portugal have less than a hundred.

In fact, some 17% of European low cost routes have their departure points or destinations in Spanish airports. At their head is Barcelona-El Prat, the second airport in Europe for flights of this type (160), just after London (217). In the study by city, Barcelona is level with Paris, which also has 160 low cost routes, but split between three different airports.

These figures have allowed Gopili to produce a European map of the regions that are best connected by low cost routes, showing the predominance of the Catalan capital.
