In the same way that Picasso said that inspiration only came to him when he was painting, the same can be said for Àngels Dietmar and Luis Vega, two multifaceted entrepreneurs from Tres Volteretas. After years working in the audiovisual sector and having contact with the publishing world, they have now united the two worlds by making book trailers.
Publishing promotion on the screen
"Tres Volteretas is a producer of video and content. We work in many fields, we do reports and more classic documentaries, fictional scripts and lastly, with the support of Barcelona Activa, we have launched a book trailer production project," says Dietmar, who adds: "A book trailer is a video clip, like a short film trailer, which gives people an idea about the book."
From ESCAC to everywhere else
Àngels Dietmar Hartz and Luis Vega set up this company out of a need to invoice the scriptwriting courses they gave in different centres. The couple met in the Escola Superior de Cinema i Audiovisuals de Catalunya and give script writing classes in the Ateneu Barcelonès and auxiliary university classes.
In the years they have been working together, they have come across opportunities to innovate and expand in the field of audiovisual production: Tres Volteretas has worked for TV3 on drama, making films for television, such as Minoria Absoluta, as well as documentaries, workshops and working alongside the director Toni Salgot.
Tres Volteretas, besides giving script writing classes, also devotes some of its time to analysing and editing scripts. Non-stop: "I don't know if it is in fashion, but we have a lot of open fronts in looking towards the future, we do everything," says Dietmar.
"One more time around?"
The company's unusual name comes from a French documentary called Gènesi, which is about the origin of life, in which the presenter says that life is "birth, going around three times and leaving," jokes Dietmar. However, he adds that the double meaning as far as work is concerned is part of the items and scripts: "In the guild we always end up talking about going around ('donar una volta' in Catalan) one more time on whatever we are working on" or, in other words, "the three times around you go before finding a parking place," he says smiling.
Since 2009, the two cinema professionals have been working together, after having studied film at the ESCAC. The company is made up of the two but with the projects they work on, each time they need to find directors of photography, setting, music, editing, etc. "In any case, we are learning a lot and training ourselves to take on part of the post-production process."
Right now, Tres Volteretas is working on a book trailer for a Herder book that will soon be released. Moreover, it is also preparing the launch of a new branch of this publisher. It also has a project concerning a fiction series with Focus Audiovisual and Minoria Absoluta.
The future of the producer is in continuing with book trailers and establishing itself to become the audiovisual contributor for publishers.
